The 31-member coordination committee of the Sunamganj district branch of the NCP was announced on Saturday night. Dewan Sajaur Raja Chowdhury (Sumon), the great-grandson of mystic Hasan Raja, a resident of Teghariya area of ​​Sunamganj Municipality, has been made the chief coordinator of the committee. The committee was announced in a notification signed by the organization’s central chief organizer (northern region) Sarjis Alam and member secretary Akhtar Hossain.

Dewan Sajaur Raja Chowdhury contested the by-election for the post of mayor of Sunamganj Municipality in 2018 with the symbol of a sheaf of rice. However, he has never been seen active in BNP politics.

Five people have been appointed as joint coordinators in the committee. Among them, Md. Harunur Rashid is a resident of Bishwambharpur upazila of the district. He is the former general secretary and president of the upazila BNP. Former chairman of Bishwambharpur Upazila Parishad. He was expelled from the party for disobeying the party’s instructions and running as a candidate in the last upazila election. After the committee was announced, he posted on Facebook that he had been contacted by the NCP. However, there was no discussion about the committee or the issue of being included in the committee.

Harunur Rashid told Prothom Alo, “I was contacted by the NCP. There were talks. However, I did not join them. Now I am embarrassed to see my name suddenly in the committee. I am in BNP and will remain.” Another joint coordinator of the committee, Ataur Rahman, was active in the student-people movement. Joint coordinator Abu Saleh Nasim did his post-graduate studies from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet. He was the university’s coordinator in the anti-discrimination student movement.

Sajaur Raja, who was given the responsibility of the district’s chief coordinator, said that the committee matter was coordinated from the center, and told Prothom Alo, “I was not in active politics. There was support for the July mass movement. We will work with everyone to build a new Bangladesh without discrimination and based on justice. People no longer want anarchy and terrorism. They want peace and comfort. They want to see a beautiful Bangladesh.
